Mike’s June DVD Picks

Hey people, Mike here. It's that time again. Unfortunately this month is filled with re-issues of rather bland releases of movies so this list is fairly short. Fotunately the what little did make the list this month is some really good stuff. So sit back, strap in and get ready for some must have DVDs.

Gone In 60 Seconds: Director's Cut
Release Date: 6/7/05

You know, I'm not usually a fan of Jerry Bruckheimer films. They are usually just excuses to blow up as much stuff as possible. However, he does occasionally put out a few nuggets of pure gold such as Beverly Hills Cop and the Bad Boys franchise. Amazingly enough, Gone is 60 Seconds was one of those moments of film making clarity that I managed to really enjoy. Maybe it was because I really like cool cars, but I like to think it was genuinely a good film. Anyway, this release has some good featurettes and general extra goodies though no new scenes at all so it's a good purchase if you don't alraedy have a copy of the film. If you do then the world certainly wouldn't end if you didn't pick this one up.

Stripes: Extended Cut
Release Date: 6/7/05

I've said it about others and I'll say it about this one. If you don't know why you need to buy this then you need to find a nwe website. Besides, with the 18 minutes of extra footage AND the Top Secret EM-50 Urban Assault Vehicle you get to cut out and put together how can you possibly even think about passing this one up?

Hitch
Release Date: 6/14/05

OK, you might be laughing that I included a Will Smith romantic comedy on my list but let me explain. I saw this movie with my wife because she's a woman so of course she likes romantic comedies and in order to get her to go with me to all the cazy movies I want to see I occasionally have to make her happy by seeing movies I wouldn't usually see. Now having said that, I would just like to say that I enjoyed this movie immensely entertaining. A lot of film "geeks" love to hate Will Smith because he makes all those block buster movies that often lack in several areas BUT I think he has KILLER comedic timing and have always liked him. This movie is funny. Really funny. Add to that the fact that this movie breaks the mold and has the woman scerw up and have to kiss ass to get the man back and it makes a really good date movie. So if you want to get some serious quality time with your woman, man, inanimate objects, what-ever then this is the movie you need.

Three words man, BIG FREAKIN SHARK!

American Psycho: Killer Collector's Edition (Uncut Version)
Release Date: 6/21/05

This movie is one of the most brutally beautiful films I've ever seen(out done by Ong-Bak but only just barely). Christian Bale plays the absolutely perfect 80's yuppie, closet psycho who works on Wall Street during the day and murders hookers and co-workers at night. I can't wait to see all the deleted scenes in this one.
