Hey people, Mike here. So as you've probably noticed, I've been fairly absent from the site lately. Call it burn out, call it lazy, call it whatever you want, but I've basically let Micah float the site for several months now. Anyway, that's done now and I'm getting things started by trying something new these days. From now on I will be posting my DVD picks weekly instead of monthly. This will serve two purposes. One, it will hopefully increase the number of posts I make on the site and get me bad into the swing of posting regularly and two, instead of trying to come up with whitty things to say about an entire months worth of releases(and getting frustrated and giving up) I only have to worry about one week at a time. So while it gives you content to check more often, it also makes things seriously easier on me...win, win. Right? Anyway, every week...hopefully every Friday but at the very least before release day on Tuesday...I will post my picks for the coming Tuesday and at teh end of every month I will combine all the releases from the current month into a monthly archive where you can view entire months at a time if that's your thing.

Well enough of that serious talk! On with the Picks of the Week for May 30th, 2006!

Platoon: 2 Disc Collector's Set
Release Date: 05/30

One of my all-time favorite War films, Platoon kicks MAJOR ass and this version appears to be the ass kickin-est version ever. Six different documentaries...let me say that again. SIX DIFFERENT DOCUMENTARIES on the film and the war. Now THAT'S what I'm talking about. We also have feature commentaries with Oliver Stone and military advisor extraordinaire, Dale Dye as well as never-before-seen deleted scenes. MAN I can't wait for this one!

Rollergirls: The Complete Season One
Release Date: 05/30

OK, this one should be fairly self explanatory...I mean, come on! Added to the hot chicks rolling around this show is filmed here in Austin and I actually know one of the girls in the league. Good stuff all around.

Smokey And The Bandit: Special Edition
Release Date: 05/30

Now as good of a film as this is, this particular version does seem just a LITTLE light on special features to call it a "Special Edition" BUT I digress. It's still a classic film and if you don't already own a copy then it would be a great on for you to add to the collection.

The UFC: Ultimate Fighter: Season 2
Release Date: 05/30

Now, anyone who has read many of my Picks of the Month posts will know that I'm a HUGE MMA(Mixed Martial Arts) fan and have recommended quite a few UFC DVDs in the past year or so. Well this one is no different. The Ultimate Fighter: Season 2 is another does of unsigned fighters looking to make it big in the UFC. Some of these guys have what it takes to make it and some of them will go home...but at least we get to see them get their asses kicked first!
